Roots Cafe is an Unexpected Gem in South End
It's no secret I love New York. Just look at my blog and you'll see all of the posts I've crafted about the city. One of my favorite things about the city is the INCREDIBLE restaurant scene. You go down random side streets and are overwhelmed with the amount of dining options you suddenly have. The best thing? Most of the restaurants are spectacular, even if they seem unexpected.
When I stumbled upon Roots Cafe on Instagram, I knew I had to check out this healthy menu during the month of January. My mom and I planned a girl's day, and as soon as I walked into Roots Cafe, I was in love.
The atmosphere was trendy, but inviting. I immediately felt like I was walking in a cafe in the West Village in Manhattan. There were succulents, an excess amount of natural light, and a seasonal menu with many uber-healthy selections to choose from. My heaven!
I'll admit that I didn't know how this food would taste. It looked healthy and delicious, but I wasn't sure if it would skimp on flavor. BUT, as soon as the food came out, my mom and I were amazed! The chicken and dumplings was so good that my mom hasn't quit talking about it. I loved the zoodle dish I ordered, as it was filling & satisfying with a hint of curry. And the cauliflower gratin: oh my word, such a creative twist on a classic (unhealthy) dish.
Roots Cafe is one of the most incredible, unassuming little restaurants I've stumbled upon in Charlotte! I already can't wait to go back. Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments!
